The Early Voting Post-Gaming Begins

Below is an email which the Maryland Democratic Party sent out this afternoon. The only edits I made were for the purpose of removing the name of the person who sent it to me.

This is the first fundraising solicitation I have seen from either party tied directly to expanding early voting outreach. Note that the Democrats regard early voting "as the difference maker this fall," and plan to deliver "more than 100,000" Democratic early voters during the general election.

Subject: Fwd: Lessons learned

Dear ______:

I just got this email from our political director that I want to share with you.

We’ve learned valuable lessons from our Primary Election Early Voting program that will be critical to our General Election Early Voting program. It’s clear that when voters know that they have the option to vote early, they jump at the chance to avoid the long lines. However, we need to raise another $7,000 by the end of the Primary to expand our Early Voting program in October.

Can you chip in $100, $75 or $50 before our Tuesday, September 14th deadline?

We’re making important budget decisions this week so we can hit the ground running - for all Democrats statewide - on September 15th. Your contribution today will ensure we can fully fund our General Election Early Vote program and tip the scales of victory for Democrats across Maryland this fall.

We need your help to expand our program and get more Democrats to the polls. Will you contribute $100, $75, or $50 before our Tuesday, September 14th deadline?

Thank you for all of your help.

Travis -

We’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons during the Primary Early Voting period that we absolutely need to implement for General Election Early Voting.

We are quickly learning that we can engage a wide swath of supporters and get them to vote early if they know the option exists.

We need to expand our Early Voting program to incorporate lessons learned. We expect that if we can expand our General Election Early Vote program, we can get more than 100,000 voters to cast their ballots - for Democrats - before November 2nd.

I know we need to make General Election budget decisions by September 14th, Primary Election Day. Do you think we can secure an additional $7,000 by Tuesday so we can fully fund our expanded General Election Early Vote Program?

It will be the difference maker this fall.
